This is why I will only accept the MEHEM ending as a proper ending. The happy ending mod for the Legendary Edition even has a perfectly plausible method of taking out the Reapers and NOT the Geth or EDI, based on comments one of the game's creative team had made about what they wanted to do with the ending, and includes a couple Codex entries in the game to explain the method.
